Real Men Love Watches

Can a man have too many watches? If you ask this man, the answer is no. I absolutely cannot turn down a cool watch. It all started when I was very young. My grandfather had an amazing watch collection, with many handed down from his father. I loved to sit in his room and look at the dozens of unique time pieces on his dresser.

One that stuck in my mind was this pre-1940s Swiss self winding chronograph. It was beautiful: it was gold plated with a very intricate white face. Its leather straps were well worn and on the back it has a crystal back plate that showed all the parts inside. I would spend hours trying to figure out how it worked.

Sadly, I don’t know what happened to that watch after he passed, but I never forgot it. Ever since, I have had a thing for watches. I have an extensive collection, but I have never had the pleasure of owning a self-winder. Most of them are a bit to “spendy” just to pick up, but it was always a goal of mine.

Not too long ago, my friend showed me this watch his company sold in their catalog Gadget Universe, the Steinhausen Classic Automatic Watch. It was remarkably familiar to the one of my grandfather that captured my interest as a child. So, I had to snap one up. When it arrived, I was most impressed with the attention to detail and the quality. What I really liked was how sharp it looked on my wrist. This is a man’s watch, no doubt.

Funny thing, I sometimes sit at night, looking at my watch collection and it reminds me of my grandfather. Who knows, someday, I might just be lucky enough to share my fascination with watches with my own grandson. Maybe the Steinhausen Classic Automatic Watch will get his attention.
