Can Gadgets Save Lives?

stungun.jpg

There are many gadgets offered here that are fun and exciting and make great entertainment or conversational pieces. Here is something I do believe is a bit more on the serious side and deals with personal safety. How many times have you, a family or friend, or someone you heard about been put in a position where they felt threatened and vulnerable by an attacker? For those that live in a big city, there is a bigger chance of one falling victim and becoming part of that growing statistic. There are gadgets that can be used to obtain a better peace of mind.

I am talking about the Telescopic Stun Gun With Siren offered by Gadget Universe. So far I haven’t needed to use the device in a real life situation, but I did have a chance to get familiar with the operations of it by doing some tests.

The product comes with a holster and batteries, but oddly enough, not any instructions. (I did manage to figure out how the device worked without “zapping” myself or others around me.) Because this device would be used in a possible life or death situation the batteries should always be fully charged. The unit comes with 4 regular non-rechargeable r123a batteries. It is necessary to invest in rechargeable batteries. A great company to get high quality rechargeable r123a batteries and a charger is North American Battery Company. The UltraLast brand package I ordered (ULCR123rk) came with 2 rechargeable batteries and a smart charger with auto shut off and LED charge indicator. I also ordered 2 additional single-pack cr123a batteries (ULCR123R). Great choice!

With the batteries taken care of, it was time to put the batteries in. Oh gee, there wasn’t a diagram either in or on the box. I finally found the direction the batteries go in when I pushed the ON button all the way and heard the roar of the siren… IT IS LOUD! The 130 decibel siren is definitely an attention getter. Caution: you don’t want to have this anywhere near your ears.

I was thinking, if the alarm isn’t enough to deter an attacker I wanted to see the 800,000 volt “light show” in action. To those who don’t know about electricity, this is pretty powerful. This voltage is enough to drop a big person within a couple of seconds. (Any skeptics out there care to make an appointment so I can demonstrate it on them just to be certain???) Once I pressed the bottom button, it extended the gun to almost 2 feet. (The good thing here is that I could stand a distance away from an impending attacker.) When I pushed the ON button to the middle and pressed the bottom large button, I saw the show - a glow of electrical lights with intimidating crackling sounds.

In reality I hope I never need to use it, but having it gives me an additional sense of security. Who knows, it may even save a life.
